Strategies for Opening the Root Chakra

In my previous post, I discussed the importance of having a functional root chakra. One of the main ways to open it if it is blocked is to do the chanting exercises discussed here. But there are some other things you can do, including grounding meditations. Soul Workings has a version of this that you can try. It involves visualizing roots growing out from the bottoms of your feet and joining you to the earth. You can also sit quietly in a lotus or half-lotus position and either silently or aloud repeat affirmations reinforcing your worldly connection, such as “I am rooted, safe, and secure” or “I feel at home everywhere”. There are also some yoga positions that may help you feel grounded, including savasana (corpse pose). Last, you can always increase your feeling of earthly connection by walking outdoors barefoot and relishing the sensation of the grass under your feet and between your toes. If you’re indoors, try rubbing your feet against your carpet and enjoy the feeling.

If you employ all of these strategies, your root chakra will surely benefit.
